The Annals of Anti-Care

An informal chronology based on my daily reading of the news, starting mid-September 2025.
September 12, 2025: President Donald Trump said he “couldn’t care less” when asked by Fox News how he would make America “come back together”. See video clip and this summary in The Guardian.
September 15, 2025. New York Times article by Jonathan Mahler documents reductions in funding for cancer research. He writes “Cancer research seldom has a clear, monetizable endpoint — it is often work, in other words, that private industry would never support.” About 40 percent of Americans are likely to be diagnosed with some form of cancer before they die. “According to a recent study in The Journal of Clinical Oncology, every $326 that our government spends researching cancer extends a human life by one year.” The value of a year of life doesn’t show up in our Gross Domestic Product.
